You can check that one out for updates and photos for my time in England. I know I said Xanga was on the return, but that obviously isn't the case. So until further notice (which could be next week), this is closed.

  • It's amazing how much time I've spent in Georgia for never living there. I'd say it's probably more than any other place in the world other than my two homes of Michigan and England. And before three years ago, I never had come to Georgia. Crazy, eh?

Yes, well I'm in Georgia for some training with AIM. The new team comes in a few days and that is the cause of much excitement! Makes me think of last year at this time when I was here as well, having just left for the year. On Monday, I will be hanging with my Georgia homies... David, and most likely Kristin and Derik. For this I'm terribly excited!

I have questions you much answer.
    Do you journal?
What's the latest book you're reading?
Where have you spent the most time other than a place you've lived?

Hey all. My apologies for a delay in posting. I've been in England the last week and the only internet access has been at the library and it doesn't allow users to go on Xanga. But hey, I'm back and ready to roll.

I got back to England on Thursday, the 16th. That evening, those here on staff and I went out to see The Bourne Ultimatum (Just because we're missionaries doesn't mean we don't do things like go to the movies. We just rarely do because we have no money). I must say, the Bourne Trilogy is fantastic! This last one was my favourite of the three, ending the trilogy in great fashion. If you haven't seen Ultimatum, go out and do so, because it's great. And if you haven't seen the other movies, get those first, and then watch the last one. You won't be disappointed.

Since being back, we've been getting things ready for when the new team comes in September. It's been good. In my spare time I've been reading (among other books), The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. I must say, it's been a while since I've read such a good novel (that wasn't by Brandilyn Collins). The story is full of irony and has themes such as loyalty, friendship, and forgiveness, including others as well. I will say, it is a bit intense and isn't PG at all times, but it's a brilliantly put together story. It gives a modern day picture of Afghanistan which, in all honesty, could be very different than how it really is, but seeing as it's written by an Afghan, I would believe it to be accurate. It's real and raw, which is nice in a society full of fake and sugarcoated things. So... after you go and see Ultimatum, go out and buy The Kite Runner. It'll leave you wanting to go buy his new book that came out a few months ago.

In all things, don't give up and don't believe the lie that you can nothing other than give in. Forgive and Love much. Don't abandon your friends in their time of need and hold on to hope, for it is one of the greatest things we have.

And with now that I'm off that little soap box, I shall leave you to go about your day.
Stay classy and don't take candy that's been open.

I've been thinking about Jesus lately. It's a good thing for missionaries to do... think about Jesus, you know.
Been thinking about the people who didn't really like Jesus. Who didn't get along with Him. And basically, it seems that there are few people outside of the really religious group that didn't like Jesus. Interesting.

I think Jesus is quite fed up with religion. Especially religion about Him. I mean... religion is a lot of rules, regulations, and ideas to get us closer to God. To get us approved by God. To have the favour of God. People are religious to get to Heaven. And to be loved by God. So it's easy to see why Jesus didn't like it. And it's easy to see why religious people didn't (and still don't) really like Jesus.

Jesus loves people the way they are. You or I can't do anything to make God love us more or less. Obviously, Jesus wouldn't like a system or way of doing things that people try to use to gain His favour and love. Because they already have it. Jesus already loves them and adores them. Jesus didn't start loving me once I went to church. He did long before those days.

It's clear why religious people wouldn't like Jesus. They're set in their religion and trying to please God. Then some guy named Jesus comes along and lives a life that says, "You don't have to do anything to earn God's love and grace. They are given freely and to even the most undeserving." Of course religious people would get upset about a guy that goes against the way they live.

Perhaps we should forget religion. Forget things that we do to try to earn God's love and favour. Many times, we do try to do things because we think God will like us better or more than someone else. Screw religion. It doesn't work. It's useless. A friend of mine said recently (in front of a church mind you) "Religion has no place in the 21st century." I agree. Let's stick with Jesus and his way of living.

"Sinners" were the people that like Jesus. They would like Christians a lot more if we were more like Jesus. Rather share our beliefs and convictions first, why don't we share Jesus? He's what the world needs.

    Reject religion. Embrace Jesus.

So I'm sure you've heard the song "Hey There Delilah" by the Plain White Tees. It's on most popular radio stations close to everyday. It's a good song in my opinion. Cheesy? A bit... but many a great song have been cheesy. Anyhow, I heard the story behind it. So this guy who wrote it (don't know the name, but the PWT guy), met this girl Delilah one night in Chicago. He thought she was beautiful and wanted to hit on her or get her interested in him because she was heading for New York to go to school shortly thereafter. So, he tells her that he'll write her a song. So yeah, she goes to New York and they talk on the phone here and there, but she has a boyfriend... who isn't the Plain White Tee guy. But she kids him about the song that he was supposed to write and she never heard it. Well, he did end up writing it and obviously has been popular. But yeah they apparently haven't talked much in a while, but now people are wanting to know who Delilah is and he had to call her and tell her that the song was about her of course. So yeah... Weird, uh? They weren't even dating. Like I could gather that the guy really liked this Delilah girl and that she was in school in New York. But she has another boyfriend? Crazy. Could you imagine being that boyfriend? I'll bet he doesn't like hearing the song on the radio...
America. I tell ya. Only here would something like that happen.

I've decided on the suit with plaid vest for the wedding. I love this suit and I have a duff hat to match, so it really looks sweet. I was contemplating growing mutton chops to further the 1800s look, but a wedding outside in South Carolina in the middle of August is going to provide enough heat in of itself. I don't need hair on my face to further raise my body temperature.

I've been listening to Norah Jones lately. She's good and I recommend her. Makes for good background music for studying, writing Xanga entries, and daydreaming.

What kind of music do you like as background music to studying?
    Does anyone study?
